FMIT Safety Webinar: Developing a New Hire Safety Orientation for Seasonal Workers

Description:  It’s springtime again and municipalities across the state are getting ready to hire thousands of seasonal employees. These employees help with tasks ranging from landscaping to day camps to lifeguards and everything in between. With new workers comes new risks! In fact, injuries are three times more likely to occur in employees who have held their job for three months or less. This is likely because:

o             We may assume that new hires already know how to perform their jobs safely.

o             We may not emphasize the importance of safety.

o             New hires may not be familiar with the required personal protective equipment, and safe work practices.

o             New hires may not know which questions to ask about safety, or they may be reluctant to ask.

o             New hires may not know whom to talk to, whether it’s an emergency or even a basic question.

o             Training may be focused primarily on accomplishing tasks, ignoring the hazards associated with those tasks.

This webinar will provide some examples on how to limit this risk, and to prepare these new employees for the job at hand.

Note: We DO NOT provide certificates for any webinars. If your department is using this webinar as department training simply document the completion of the training on a training roster or meeting summary form.

Target Audience: This live webinar is best suited for organizational leadership since it provides information on planning, policy development or high-level risk management strategies that most employees are not involved in.
