WEBINAR
Law Enforcement Safety: Understanding and Preventing Slip and Capture Errors

Description:
In rapidly unfolding moments, officers sometimes fall victim to slip and capture errors—defaulting to a familiar habit instead of the intended action. These errors are especially likely during equipment transitions, such as adopting a new Taser, adjusting to a new holster, or operating with a pistol-mounted light. While dangerous, these mistakes are also largely predictable—and therefore largely preventable.

This webinar will unpack the science behind slip and capture errors, the three conditions that make them more prevalent, and the steps agencies can take to reduce risk. Beyond theory, we will also address practical training challenges: How do you know when your new lesson plan has truly “landed” with every officer? How do you test for real understanding and skill transfer, not just classroom compliance?

Participants Will Learn To:
• Identify the conditions that increase the likelihood of slip and capture errors.
• Adapt training methods to account for new equipment and evolving tactics.
• Develop testing and assessment strategies to ensure officers retain and apply what they’ve learned.
• Build predictable, repeatable habits that hold up under stress.

This session will help trainers, supervisors, and officers alike strengthen safety practices, improve equipment transitions, and reduce preventable errors in the field.
